Overall Strategy

Insane in the Membrane requires you to earn the following reputations:

Once earned, you do not need to keep the reputation (unless you earned it and lost it prior to April 14, 2014). This is important because Bloodsail Buccaneers reputation interacts with the four Steamwheedle Cartel goblin town reputations; most actions taken to gain reputation with Booty Bay will lose reputation with Bloodsail Buccaneers, and every action taken to gain reputation with Bloodsail Buccaneers will lose Booty Bay reputation.

Thus it is important to do these in a particular sequence: No matter how much reputation you have when you start, you should always complete Bloodsail Buccaneers before the four goblin towns. If you don’t, then you will end up having to do the goblin towns twice.

Darkmoon Faire and Ravenholdt are independent, and you can work on these at any time without regard for the progress of other reputations.

Special Situations

You don’t have to keep your reputations once earned, but if you want to do so, you can. In this case, before starting the Bloodsail Buccaneers grind, you should complete all Booty Bay quests which cause reputation loss with Bloodsail Buccaneers. A complete list of these quests is available in the Booty Bay guide.

See also the FAQ for several other common situations you may find yourself in.

  1. I keep hearing different things. Some folk say you don’t have to keep the rep once you have earnt it, others say you do. I even opened a ticket to ask a GM and he said he did not know. This page here says it was updated for 6.1, but I am really trying to make sure before I have to go and do it ALL again.

  2. Question:
Based on the hotfix in April any exalted rep is logged so why would you have to do the Cartel rep grind twice if you don’t start with Blood Sail rep first? Is it so you can use those towns/flight paths/quests once you hit honored with Blood Sail?

  3. Maybe it’s just due to distraction but, can this be done on a demon hunter/monk while having a alt rogue for the boxes? Or does it have to be done completely on a rogue?

    Thanks in advance

  4. Hi Raimondas,

Just wanted to clarify something. Say I want to maintain Exalted with Bloodsail and Steamwheedle simultaneously; is it safe to avoid the Brashtide chain (and farm Bloodsail elsewhere) until after I’m exalted with Bloodsail? Does the Brashtide chain decrease Bloodsail in any way?

Thanks again for your excellent guide!

    1. More to the point, you should avoid the Brashtide event in this case, because it phases out all the Booty Bay Bruisers which grant reputation. To get out of the phase, you have to be at least Neutral with Booty Bay, so you can’t grind Bloodsail here if you intend to keep the reputation. I suggest completing the quest chain before you start Insane in the Membrane if you intend to keep Bloodsail and Booty Bay reputation simultaneously.
