The fastest Heavy Junkbox farming method yet

For most people, farming Heavy Junkboxes for Ravenholdt reputation is the worst part of the Insane in the Membrane grind. There is a way to speed it up dramatically, though, that is available to most players.

All other things being equal, it’s my current belief that the best place to farm Heavy Junkboxes is the Greengill Coast on the Isle of Quel’Danas. Unlike at the Fields of Honor, you can farm pretty much continuously here. If only the murlocs would stand still…

This weekend Hellrazor#1519 clued me in to a way to farm junkboxes much faster from those orcs at the Fields of Honor: Simply pickpocket one square of mobs, kill them all, and then realm hop. This completely eliminates the several minutes wait you would incur when farming here normally, and can more than double the number of junkboxes you can get. Hellrazor told me he was getting 130-140 per hour, where normally I expect to see 50-60 per hour at this location.

To realm hop rapidly, you will need an addon. My current favorite is Cross Realm Assist, which has a single-click realm hop button that cycles you through every single available group. Pickpocket a square of orcs, click the Quick Join button, and you’re on a new realm with fresh mobs. Lather, rinse, repeat until you fill your bags or you can’t stand it anymore.

There is a catch, though: You’ll need cross-realm groups to cycle through. If you’re on US United States, EU English or CN China realms, this is no problem. Each of these groups of realms has plenty of cross-realm groups at most times of day or night. But in others, such as US Oceanic or Latin America, you may have difficulty finding enough cross-realm groups to make this work reliably. If you find there are few cross-realm groups available to you, then I recommend pickpocketing all four squares of orcs before realm hopping. If there are no groups at all, you’re probably better off to go back to Greengill Coast and pickpocket murlocs.

Let me know how this works out for you, and if you have any other ideas for speeding up the grind, feel free to contact me.

  1. In the process of farming heavy junkboxes and decided to try the Fields of Honor realm hopping method. I’ve tried about 5-6 different realms and have noticed a problem that when you change to a new server at least half of the mobs say they have already been pick pocketed. Just wanted people going for this to be aware of it. I’m back to LBRS as it seems the rate is a lot quicker at this point and once the instance is reset so are the pockets. Good luck everyone.

    1. This has been one of those things I’ve been meaning to get to, and never quite found the time.

I suspect you’re running into people who have also read this and are also realm hopping! And given that it’s “wait for the next expansion” time for many guilds now, there are a lot more people out farming and grinding away now than there were at the beginning of the expansion.

Greengill Coast and LBRS are still your best bets when the competition is too heavy.

  2. So I’ve tested all of these, and I have found as of today that LBRS has the highest farm rate. I’m gleaning 1 box per minute there, while with the murloc slaves it’s about 1 box per 2 minutes. For grinding, this is significant.

The troops in a row are ridiculous on their drop rate, and even 20 levels above them I could not stealth through their ranks. Total waste of time.

I am using a pickpocket macro and have a loot add on that only keeps the strongboxes. Both make it as quick as it can get in my opinion.

As the title describes, this is insane. I’ll have wasted so much time on this it’s ridiculous. Tunnel vision I guess ;I

  3. For everyone who does not have a rogue at level 60. You can create a Rogue with the Class Trial and instand Hearthstone out of the zone, for alliance you will have your Hearthstone in Stormwind so it is only a short flight between Hearthstone and Fields of Honor. This character is free to use for 8 Hours /played and you can create 5 class trials per hour so you actually never run out of level 100 Rogues to farm the lockboxes. You cannot enter a Dungeon or such but for the purpose of farming lockboxes at Fields of Honor I found this to be a very affective way to farm.
