Two More New Ravenholdt Videos

In conjunction with my fifth Insane in the Membrane grind now in progress, I’ve updated two of my Ravenholdt grinding videos to address various problems with the original videos and changes in World of Warcraft since they were first published.

In conjunction with my fifth Insane in the Membrane grind now in progress, I’ve updated two of my Ravenholdt grinding videos to address various problems with the original videos and changes in World of Warcraft since they were first published.

These two videos cover farming Syndicate mobs in Arathi Highlands, the fastest way to get your Ravenholdt reputation to 11999/12000 Honored, where these cap out. The original videos, made shortly after Cataclysm release, had various issues such as not completely covering the areas to be farmed, and most embarrassing of all, keyboard driving. (If you haven’t learned to mouse drive yet, spend a week on this. It will completely change your game for the better.)

The most challenging part of making these videos, apart from Fraps being a complete piece of crap, was not having any other players around. I was not entirely successful in this, but successful enough that I didn’t bother to do any more takes. Since the introduction of cross-realm zones, these questing areas are now very highly populated for everyone, and it will be difficult to get them to yourself. This is going to slow down your grind somewhat, but since the players questing have specific objectives, it won’t affect you as much as you might think.

Let’s begin with the often overlooked Northfold Manor.

There are nearly as many mobs here as at Stromgarde Keep, but far fewer line of sight issues. Many of these mobs are stealthed; these mobs can be found around the perimeter of the farm and on the road leading in. Start from the northernmost point on the perimeter between the house and the silos and work your way around counterclockwise.

While this area is less busy than Stromgarde Keep, it does see its share of questing players. Fortunately, they usually do not kill the stealthed mobs, meaning you can continue grinding even when players are in the area without either of you affecting the other much.

This updated video shows the location of all the stealthed mobs, even if I did have the occasional trouble targeting them with my macro.

Stromgarde Keep is Arathi’s Grand Central Station. Both the Alliance and Horde have significant quest lines here, which often leads to contention for mobs to kill as well as frequent combat on PvP servers. It’s very unusual to find this place empty; I was only able to make the video while player traffic was at a minimum, but still not entirely absent.

This updated video shows mouse driving, as well as the location of (I think) all of the stealthed mobs. Some of them have long patrol routes which extend behind the buildings around the area, so I may have missed one, or you may find one in a completely different place. Listen carefully for the sound of them passing nearby.

Again, targeting the stealthed mobs will allow you to move through here without disturbing questing players too much. You may even want to help them move through faster by killing their mobs after they’ve tagged them.

I have yet to add any audio to either of these videos, as YouTube’s audio editor was broken when I uploaded them, and besides, I’d rather not have the videos pulled over a copyright claim. Bring your own music, and I guarantee you’ll like it.

Oh, and finally, it’s October 31. Before you quit for the day today, grab a 2 hour Wickerman buff and then don’t log in again until Sunday when the Darkmoon Faire returns. You can then stack it with your Darkmoon reputation buff for a couple of hours of serious reputation gains.
